Lili’s Puppies 6 to 12 weeks

Strangely enough, since the puppies started to leave us the number of photos I’ve taken and uploaded to the site has diminished. So until I get the photos together here’s a miscellaneous selection of the last few weeks – especially showing recent photos of Nogood Boyo towards the end of the gallery.
 
Only Nogood Boyo is still with us and our “expert” friends assure us that he has the potential to be an excellent show dog and we are therefore hopeful that his forever owners will be willing to show him – but still give him a normal Welshie lifestyle of thrashing around the countryside one minute and relaxing around a loving household the next.
 
 

 

Lili’s Puppies 6 weeks old

Lili’s puppies getting the once over from our “expert” friends – the Two Jans – trying to get them to adopt their show postures is great fun – although the puppies would prefer to be fighting or just looking cute.

Their kennel names have been registered and approved by the Kennel Club. Like our first litter, they are named after characters from Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood:

  • Y Berfa Gossamer Beynon
  • Y Berfa Willy Nilly
  • Y Berfa Gwennie Goosegog

 

Megan’s First Litter

Megan’s first litter came about after it was decided that our own Owain and Megan would be a suitable match.

Seven girls were born on 1st February 2012 – they all went to great homes, most of whom we are still in touch with and we have regular up-dates on the dogs’ adventures.

We will update the information here eventually but in the meantime here’s a selection of the photos we put online at the time.

We must add at this point that the puppy you see in the last photo is our very own Lili – she went off with her new owners to Clitheroe in Lancashire – but after a few weeks the family, due to some unfortunate circumstances were unable to keep her. So little Lili came back to us and despite us having other potential owners on our books, Lili decided she was going to stay with us – the rest is history.

Lili’s Puppies 1 day old

After yesterday’s hard work Lili and all her lovely new puppies slept all day and all night – but they must have taken time out to have a good feed off mum because they all gained substantially on their birth weight.

 

Sue also gave them names to help identify them:

The girls are Penny, Tuppence and Thruppence – because of the number of spots on their heads.

And the boys are Tanner and Bob – Tanner being the smallest of the two (although not by much).

Lili’s First Litter

The day they were born.

The litter was due earlier in the week on Monday 20th – so we were starting to get a little anxious when they hadn’t arrived by Thursday and Sue spent every night sleeping alongside the whelping box, looking over her – but throughout the wait Lili was quite happy and carried on life as normal including her walks with the other dogs, though not as far as usual.

Then on Thursday night/Friday morning she started showing the signs of giving birth – panting and scraping at her bedding – and the first puppy popped out at 1:10am.

I won’t go into all the gory details, just to say they all arrived in the world with little fuss and Lili proved to be the efficient, diligent mother in cleaning them up and making sure they all stayed close and warm under her body.

We took each puppy momentarily to weigh them and check them over and made sure they were not trampled underfoot as each subsequent sibling arrived.

They arrived in the order – Bitch, Dog, Bitch, Dog, Bitch, the last ariving at 5:20am and they all weighed in between 325gms and 365gms.

Lili and Locksley

When looking for a mate for Lili we were keen to find a dog as far away as possible from the lines presently dominating the UK showing circles because we feel it is important to introduce new blood into this very special breed.

So we were extremely happy when Jan Reynolds (Benoveor Welsh Springer Spaniels) agreed to allow her Netherland Import “Locksley” – Benoveor Crime Wave Des Vauriennes (Imp Nld) – to mate with Lili. They proved to be a great match – producing a 2.8% inbreeding coefficient factor on the Kennel Club’s database.

Apart from being a great looking dog, Locksley’s line of the Des Vauriennes has an impressive list of showring success across Europe – his father, “Captain Jack Des Vauriennes Sh Ch” is an International Dutch, Luxembourg, Belgium Show Champion.

Locksley’s mother, “Trystyn’s Crime of Passion”, was born in the USA and saw success there with NJK ’11 before being exported to the Netherlands.
